Q: Why aquatic therapy?
A: The benefits of pool therapy are due to 3 principles of water:
- Buoyancy: helps overcome the effects of gravity by greatly reducing pain associated with joint stress and weight bearing in recovery from surgery or dysfunction.
- Hydrostatic pressure: decreases swelling and increases circulation assisting with the healing of surgical wounds and rebuilding muscle mass.
- Viscosity: provides the even resistance necessary to strengthen weak muscles.
It also helps to increase strength of the trunk and extremities, increase ROM, improve functional mobility such as walking and decrease pain and swelling.
Q: What if a patient can’t swim?
A: Each pool session is one on one conducted by a licensed therapist. The pool depth may be adjusted from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet to meet each patient’s individual needs.
Q: How can patients with disabilities get in and out of the pool?
A hydraulic chair lift is available which effortlessly lifts patients in and out of the water.
Q: Could a person with a surgical wound use the pool?
A: Yes, we have bioclusive dressings available to cover healing surgical wounds; however an infection can’t be present.
Q: How warm is the water in the treadmill pool? Air temperature? What chemicals are used?
A: The water temperature is maintained between 92-94 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit for the room temperature. Bromine is the disinfectant chemical used in the HydroWorx.
Q: Are there any situations where a person cannot receive
aquatic therapy?

- Exposed sub epidermal tissue of blisters, wounds or skin lesions

Q: What do hot and cold pools have to offer?
A: Injury Prevention
One of the best ways to prevent injuries such as muscle pulls, strains, etc. is to relax tight muscles prior to rigorous activity. The Thermal Plunge pool temperature ranges from 100 degrees to 104 degrees, which raises body temperature, increases circulation and stimulates the release of endorphins. Water also creates buoyancy, reducing body weight and relieving pressure from
muscles and joints.
Joint inflammation control and enhance muscle recovery.
Cold water (therapeutic 50 degrees) in the polar plunge pool helps control joint inflammation and enhances muscle recovery.
Muscle Relaxation
Strategic jets can be positioned in any format including trigger point patterns for a soothing massage. Powerful massage hoses easily attach for specific deep tissue therapy.
